Sometimes taking that night mission was a really big mistake because the enemy can see better in the dark than you can. Normally you are the hare rather than the whippet. Sometimes it is a matter of the terrain, where your enemy has all the high ground and started in the best spot to exploit. The Firaxis era XCOMs threw some pretty heavy MVPs at you. Flanked, not in terms of being out of cover, but by generally being completely outnumbered on more than one hostile front. Pincer movements by the enemy are normally where the fatal overstretch begins to unravel the squad.Д«eing flanked when a side collapses is also the point where the squad can crumble. Either because you donвЂ™t have enough men/women, or that the enemy are more flexible and have all their key assets in the right place. This is simply where the squad is stretched too thin. Losing any of the pre-generated soldiers from the nemesis squad would mean that you had lost a critical special ability, so preserving them was essential. There were those soldiers that you could rescue off the streets that you could bring to your squad, later they might become pivotal.

Xenonauts, is not a game IвЂ™ve played yet, but one that takes a similar cue from the X-COM franchise of old. Battle Brothers is one example of a squad wipe that can be fatal for the company of brothers and pretty much game over. Squad wipes do lend themselves to other strategy games. The War of the Chosen DLC is out so this is why I decided to cover the Squad Wipe Phenomenon. XCOM 2 (my favourite of the remakes thus far, the one with mission timers and kick ass loadout screen music) A sequel that is getting closer to what we like and shows the Firaxis master class that weвЂ™ve come to love in games like Civilization.I never played the Enemy Within DLC but heard it was good. XCOM: Enemy Unknown (the modern remake) Which I liked but doesnвЂ™t quite envisage everything that made X-COM awesome.X-COM: Terror From the Deep (the insanely hard reskin of the original) A very challenging sequel, but worthy.X-COM UFO Defense (also labelled as UFO Enemy Unknown in the UK which is going to get confusing for you Americans so IвЂ™m going to refer to Terrain Defense as X-COM because I canвЂ™t bring myself to call it UFO Defense) The daddy of them all.I have the joy of playing all of them and beating all of them. IвЂ™m going to be exploring 4 strategy games in particular. Sadly feign death is not a common trait in the games that play close to my heart. Feign death would avoid needing to repair items so often, and was just nicer than having to be respawned. Normally the big bad would stroll off and return to itвЂ™s spawning zone for round 2. It was a great benefit to take the feign death skill if you were the right class, this would allow the rest of your party to return. From my solitary year of playing WOW I remember this terminology fondly. The term вЂwipeвЂ™ was spawned from World of Warcraft, where your party could potentially be вЂwipedвЂ™ by an enemy so grand that it would overcome all of your defences. It can evoke a whole rainbow of emotions ranging from hysteria, laughter, tears, stamping of feet, rage quits and more besides. It is when, either through poor strategy, overwhelming forces, or pure bad luck (often caused by RNG hell) that you lose the entire squad, massacred by the enemy.
